Beyond the daily clean: windows, carpets and the work that keeps a building honest

A daily or nightly clean keeps a building presentable. It does not restore a carpet, clear a year’s film from the atrium glass, or lift the grease from a warehouse floor that has had forklifts on it since Easter. Those are periodic jobs. Cleanamotion runs them alongside the contract cleans — carpet and upholstery, window cleaning, warehouse floor cleaning — from Leighton Buzzard, across Milton Keynes, Hemel Hempstead, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

The checklists already on the site tell you what a daily office, school, kitchen or warehouse clean contains. This is the work that sits next to them, and the reason a building that is cleaned every night can still look tired in March.

Office carpet hides more than it shows. Traffic lanes, a meeting-room coffee, the reception sofa that every visitor sits on. A vacuum keeps the surface. A periodic machine clean lifts what the vacuum left. On a busy Milton Keynes office that might be twice a year. On a quiet suite it might be annual. On a school it follows the holidays, because you cannot dry a hall during a wet playtime. Upholstery is the same logic: task chairs, soft seating, a breakout sofa. Tell the cleaner what the fabric is, and whether a room has to be back in use the same day. Drying time is part of the spec.

Internal glass is often in the daily clean. External glass, atrium glass and anything above a safe reach are not. They need a window clean on a cycle — quarterly is a common office rhythm, more often on a roadside showroom, less often on a warehouse nobody looks at. Access is the constraint. A building with no anchorage and no plan does not get a heroic ladder. It gets a revised quote, or it gets missed.

Warehouse and industrial floors are a different machine. Dust from packing, rubber from tyres, a spill that was mopped and not lifted. A scrubber-dryer on a planned visit does what a nightly mop cannot. The aisle has to be clear. Agree the window with the warehouse manager, not only with the person who signed the cleaning contract.

How to put it in the year:

    – Carpets and upholstery: align with quieter weeks, or with school holidays if the building is a school.

    – External windows: avoid the weeks the scaffold is up for something else, or book them together.

    – Warehouse floors: a Saturday, or a shutdown, not a Tuesday when the picks are running.

    – Kitchens: a deep clean on the cycle your insurer or environmental health visit expects, separate from the nightly wipe. The kitchen checklist on the site is the daily standard. The periodic is the one that opens the canopy.

    – After a fit-out, a flood, or a film crew: a one-off, then back to the cycle.

One contractor for the daily and the periodic means one spec and one set of keys. The daily crew knows which rooms the carpet team should not reschedule over a board meeting.

If the glass is dull and the carpet has a lane in it, the building is telling you the daily clean has done its job and the periodic has not been booked. Call 01525 234113 or email sales@cleanamotion.co.uk and ask for a cycle, not a rescue. The office is 15 Ropa Court, Friday Street, Leighton Buzzard, LU7 1DU.
